Each dish has a unique story - the stories are of childhood memories on southern beaches, over coming challenges in times of hardship, and you may even find yourself being introduced to the chef's mother-in-law.

Food and booze are the game here and our hot tip is to BYO stretchy pants. The menu is perfect for sharesies, with clever takes on old favourites (we're looking at you mashed potato with three types of fat).

It hits all the right notes; specials, monster steak and rib nights, shared plates, trivia, 2-for-1 cocktails in happy hour. The pub's famous beer-battered fries are famous for a reason and you WILL try the restaurant-standard Chocolate Experience.

Erskinville has scored another win by the way of Howard's Cantina opening above the much loved Rose of Australia Hotel. Hidden away from the hype of King Street, the restaurant and cocktail bar is all about dishing out swanky small plates and hearty share plates in a retro setting.

Really enjoyed this place!! The food here is incredible - I was lucky enough to come in an try a whole heap of things off the new menu. Not only did the food present very well but the staff were super friendly and the decor is beautiful! -from fromsydwithlove
